FINE for School will not be continuing in the form of classes. This website still has valuable resource links and information to help support you and your child. I will endeavour to share and post facebook links from time to time and write blogs to empower parents in how to play an important role in their child's early education.
FINE for School is a multi-sensory learning program in Shellharbour, educating children with essential skills in preparation for primary school. The class duration is for 1 hour per week and includes multiple structured learning episodes, focusing on a letter a week and integrating hands on activities. Parents also participate and receive helpful hints to assist their child in getting ready for school. The program is taught by an experienced primary school teacher and current reading recovery teacher.
School readiness classes help your child develop skills such as following simple instructions, being responsible for belongings, building confidence, creative thinking, cooperation, problem solving as well as improving fine motor, literacy and numeracy skills.
FINE for School provides activities that children can complete independently, as well as tasks that require scaffolding. This is necessary for children to learn new skills, with some assistance from the educator or parent. Children need to be working in their "zone of proximal development" (Vygotsky, 1978) to reach their learning potential.
Each child will bring home a drawing and a craft item that they made during the lesson that integrates the literacy/numeracy learning and fine motor skills.
